Competency Testing for Security Officers and Crowd Controllers
Western Australia Police Licensing introduced the Security Competency Test on the 1 February 2017.
This requirement was established following amendments to the Security and Related Activities (Control) Regulations 1997.
The test was introduced to improve industry standards and ensure applicants have the necessary competency and integrity before entering the workforce.
Applicants applying for a Security Officer and/or Crowd Controller license must successfully complete the written examination before submitting their application at Police Licensing Services.
How to Book:
Participants will be required to book an appointment for Perth Metropolitan, present themselves at the allocated time to the SAIWA Security Testing Centre at Rear, Unit 6/1270-1274 Albany Hwy, Cannington WA 6107.
Participants who live outside of the Metro area (more than 50km from the Perth CBD) can complete the test at their nearest Country Police Station. Participants will be required to book an appointment by contacting their nearest Police Station to obtain a date and time (proof of residence must be presented) and then going to WA Country to formally book a test (date and time given) with the Security Testing Centre.

- Monday – 9.00 AM to 3.30 PM
- Tuesday – 9.00 AM to 3.30 PM
- Wednesday – 9.00 AM to 3.30 PM
- Thursday – 9.00 AM to 3.30 PM
- Friday – Closed
Office Hours:
- Monday – Thursday (except public holidays)
- 9.00 AM to 4.30 PM
- A Test cannot be booked until the Certificate has been completed and a certificate issued.
- Entering false certificate information will result in automatic cancellation without refund.
- Only one booking is to be made , multiple bookings will result in automatic cancellation without refund.
- You must be on time – if you cannot be on time you may lose your allocated time for sitting the test and we will have to make another appointment for you.
- Please ensure you allow sufficient travel time to arrive at least ten to fifteen minutes prior to your appointed time.
- If for any reason you are unable to attend on time you must contact us on 9427 0872 to advise your situation.
- You must contact us AT LEAST 48 hours prior to your appointment or your appointment may be forfeited and you will have to book and pay again.
- You will be required to know everything you learned in Certificate II in Security Operations – be sure to thoroughly study your course notes regularly before coming to sit the test.
- You must bring:
- Receipt of Payment for Testing.
- Certificate of Completion – If you don’t have your certificate of completion you WILL NOT be able to sit the test.

- Your Photo ID will be scanned.
- You will be photographed.
- You will be required to leave your Mobile Devices at reception.
- The test is closed book – You cannot take any course notes or written notes into the testing room.
- While sitting the test you cannot talk to anyone, refer to any paper or mobile devices.
- There will be Monitored and Recorded CCTV Video Surveillance in the Testing Room.

- If a participant fails to pass Section 1 of the test, they are able to have another attempt at the full assessment after a minimum of 24 hours. The second attempt will cost $27.50 Inc GST and must be paid upon booking the second attempt.
- If a participant successfully completes Section 1 of the test but fails to pass Section 2, they are able to have another attempt at Section 2 only after a minimum of 24 hours at no cost.
- If a participant fails either Section 1 or 2 of the test after two attempts, they must wait 1 week to attempt the test again. They will be required to pay the assessment fee again and will have to undertake both Section 1 & 2 regardless of their previous results.
